RED GRAPES
Cabernet Franc
Classic roast chicken goes very well
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is pretty versatile and traditional Bordeauxs go with roast meats (beef and lamb). It generally works exceptionally well with cheese.
Gamay
Because of its versatility food matching is relatively straightforward. Very good with roast duck (also chicken), steak but also fish such as cod or hake. Chilled, goes well with curry.
Merlot
Its fruitiness lends itself to roast duck, barbecued food.
Pinot Noir
This lighter wine is also good with Chicken.
Syrah/Shiraz
Its style can match heavier dishes with it well matched for Lamb, Steak and well as Brie.

WHITE GRAPES
Chardonnay
It really has great versatility. Great with fish cakes (Thai or otherwise), fish such as sea bass, poached salmon, even fish and chips. Lobster and Chardonnay enjoy each other’s company. Chablis is good with roast chicken.
Chenin Blanc
In its dry Old World form, it matches well with fish. When sweet, great with pastries or fruit tarts.
Melon de Bougogne
The Muscadet grape is a must for all things fish ; oysters, crab, prawns, lobster, sea whelks-you name it.
Sauvignon Blanc
Oysters, sushi, Chinese dishes, Indian food are all good with Sauvignon Blanc. It is also great with nibbles and canapés, calamari, fresh asparagus, avocado- a wide range of dishes work with the acidic zip and fresh citrusy flavours.
Semillon
Old World Semillon behaves in a similar fashion to Chardonnay.
